HISTORY
It was in 1847
that Wisconsin
was received into the
Union
as a state. German Lutherans,
fleeing religious oppression in their motherland, came to America
to exercise religious freedom. Our
area (Town of Sherman) was one of the places these immigrants settled.
German Lutheran settlers came together on Sundays in one of their log-hut
homes to conduct worship services. Our
records (translated from German) indicate that
August 5, 1855
was the “birthday” of our church and school.
The settlers erected a log building in this area called "Sherman
Center"
(still called this to this day) to serve as a worship center on Sundays and
Lutheran School during the week. Thus
the church and school share the same “birthday”. Our records indicate that from 1855 to the present, 15 pastors
and 38 teachers have served the congregation and Christian Day School.
Today, the
congregation employs seven professional church workers to carry out the mission
and ministry of the congregation. The school offers Christ-centered instruction
for students in grades Preschool thru grade 8. Enrollment
is typically just under 100 students. Preschool
and Child Care programs were added to the school at the start
of the 2005-2006 school year.
